Update: Dec 5 2011
We are using a new store now it is found at http://ourcoffeebarn.com The Decorative Coffee is found here, a link to a search on the new store for decorative coffee beans.
To explain the price better, we paid $2.74 per pound for these beans as green coffee beans. When roasted they lose 20% weight. Now our raw material cost is $3.29 per lb. Roasting costs include LP gas, electricity, insurance, and wages for the roaster adds close to $1.00 per pound. Now we still need to tag and bag it then box it for shipping this will add about $0.25 per pound. After all that you would think any fees are done, well think again, we need to pay the credit card companies for handling the transactions a $0.35 per transaction fee PLUS 3.2% of the transaction. So in the end our COST is VERY close to $4.50 per pound! All that we really make is the wages to roast it and little to NO actual profit!
To order please visit the 30 lbs Decorative Coffee Beans listing on our store. Now on sale for $129.99!
We have been getting a lot of traffic to the blogs posts about the decorative coffee beans! Now when you talk about a niche market I think this is a niche we can fill! We custom roast for a company in Guatemala based here in Minneapolis MN. I had 3 full 154 lb bags of 3 year old coffee from them so I asked if I could buy them at today’s market price. They readily agreed! So now we have over 400 lbs available to sell as decorative use only. We are just listing it in a 30 lb bag size to keep the cost as low as we can per pound.
Wedding decorations or a flower shop that wants to offer a coffee lovers floral design, we can help.
To order please either navigate to our retail store using the link in the top left column or click the link below.

Decorative Roasted Coffee Beans or Roasted Coffee Beans for Decoration Use Although these beans are safe to use for brewing to drink coffee they are old and or have not been stored properly for beverage use, we are selling them for use as decoration NOT for brewing. 30 pounds of Roasted Coffee Beans for Decoration Use ONLY $135.00 thats just $4.50 per pound! When multiple bags are ordered we will ship the coffee in the largest bag and box we can.
These beans are packed in a cotton drawstring bag and zip tied shut. They are very possibly left from 50 different batches of coffee, so we can not offer a roast level choice, the images above are not of the roast level you may get, just 2 examples. When multiple bags are ordered we will ship the coffee in the largest bag and box we can.

I really don’t know if it was a coincidence or not but a PayPal Inc guy called this morning to see why I didn’t have the PayPal Express installed on our stores. I thanked him for reminding me and said good bye. A few minutes later I hear a chat request come up on the Live Help chat we are now using and it was a customer wanting to know why we didn’t have PayPal Express installed. Talk about timing! So I thought about it and installed PayPal Express on both stores. It doesn’t really work well from the 1 page checkout page, if you are not logged in, but it works great from the shopping cart and checkout page once logged in. It’s kind of hard for me to debug it completely without some help. So if you have problems with the newly installed PayPal Express Checkout please let us know, so I can try to correct any problems.

Since we are not certified organic or fair trade we are dropping the FTO off of our listings, this does not mean we are no longer carrying them, we just can not chance selling them with any mention of FTO or organic in the title. The descriptions will still have the FLO ID it came from if it did. We are trying to get all of our coffee as direct trade as possible, to me this is so much more important than the fair trade agreement that have way too many hands in the pot.
I love it when I find comments like this when I get around to cleaning out my inbox!

Pete,
I just wanted to let you know that your prices are very reasonable. I have not found anyone who has the quality, variety and service that
you consistently provide. There are many who claim to sell “gourmet” coffee, but I have found them to be cheap blends that are overpriced.
Keep up the great work!
Rick
After finishing today’s roasting up, I was dripping wet from sweat! The forecast is for continued heat so Wednesdays roasting is going to be done as early as I can! I may even start as early as 4:30AM so please get your roasted orders in before 10:00PM Tuesday evening this week.
Thanks for the business!
Pete
I have just finished a kinda simple modification to our stores. Now when you are on a category list or an advanced search list you can check a box for the coffees you want, then click the add to cart button at the bottom of the list and they will all be added to your cart. The one thing I could not do is get it to add any options that would be available, i.e bag size, grind choice, roast level.
So when you then go to the shopping cart it looks like the screenshot below after you add 2 products.
So an easy fix if you wanted a custom roast level is to just click on the coffee you want to change and it will take you to it’s listing, then make your option choices and click add to cart. Then when you are back at the shopping cart you just delete the one with no options showing.
The screen shot below shows a shopping cart after I went back to the Brazil coffee and added a 16oz bag size option, note all the default option show up too. So if no options are showing in your cart and you want something other than whole bean, Perfect Point and the bag size in the coffees title, that;s how to fix it, otherwise we will assume the default options are what is wanted.
I just got this email from a VERY happy customer! I had to post it and tag it Customer Comments

Just read read your email about how you keep your prices down. I think you and Barb are just short of amazing. Our Coffee Barn is a wonderful site to shop, provides a wide assortment of beans and ‘hardware’, and most important….all at a cost I can afford. Were it not for Our Coffee Barn, I’d have to be looking at 12-step program to come off my bean addiction. I do so enjoy a fresh ground cup.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
…time for a cup~ Chris
